Both times I was in China, I used my travel bag as a purse/diaper bag because it was a lot easier. When I got home, I switched to my pretty bags, of which I had several. I have always preferred bags that you throw a few necessities in and go, so I used purses as diaper bags. Inside, I had a few diapers, a bottle with a couple extra liners, travel wipes, and an extra set of clothes and jammies. I also threw in a small bottle of baby shampoo, a baby washcloth, and the stacking cups. I would put a small tupperware container with cheerios, baby goldfish, and a few of those Gerber Sweet Potato Puffs for snacking. Finally, I tossed in a board book or two and my wallet and keys, and off we went. I travelled and visitied friends and family constantly and these few things generally worked very well. This time I am leaning towards the Vera Bradley Villager bag which has long shoulder straps and leaves room for you to have your hands free. It also haas a zipper which I love!

I think I am leaning this way. I have a Vera Bradley bag that I use as my diaper bag now and it works great. Maybe I will use the backpack as my carry on and then the purse / diaper bag as my personal item.
Did someone say Vera Bradley? LOL I will probably use my Vera Bradley Villager as my diaper bag when we get home but while in China I plan on the backpack because on the trip over it will hold all of our Med's and Snack then on the way home Diaper bag stuff...
